All menu items are programed in, so even a 5th grader can do it. (LOL) Sorry 5th graders. I hooked it up to the computer through the provided USB cable and used the free program available from their website. Had a learning curve to start, but then it worked flawlessly. Still working on the Quick Books (also free). Doing an old school accounting version along with it. Just to make sure I have everything programmed right. To me this was not an expense, but a very wise investment. It is a very robust machine, and once configured, works well.HOWEVER, setting up the machine manually (via the cash register itself) is more difficult than programming 15 VCRs (if you remember what those were) simultaneously! Thankfully, the included Windows software makes this MUCH simpler, EXCEPT the software for the machine, downloadable from sharpusa.com, appears to have been built many years ago and DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WITH WINDOWS 7. The software will install on Windows 7, and it will run on Windows 7, BUT THERE IS NO USB DRIVER TO SUPPORT THE CONNECTION TO THE CASH REGISTER. A few years ago, when this cash register was first sold, this would have been okay - everyone was running Winows XP, but not any more. Once you do that and follow along with the manual, basic programming should become easy from then on. I agree that the manual is quite confusing, however I found that learning and understanding all the functionalities were made much easier once I followed along with the software. This register allows you to do everything that you need to do in terms of keeping track of all purchases, adding a logo to the receipt along with your company contact information, adding dept's and plu's and on and on. It's great and it looks so nice and professional, and it's also very lightweight... not heavy at all. It's very quite and once programmed it allows you to run transactions really fast because you have less keys to press, it's great! I would highly recommend this cash register anyday, and am extremely happy with it! |
